Pixia Corp. provides DHS imagery for disaster preparedness and response

September 1, 2007

Executives at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in Washington needed a fast and efficient solution for ingesting and disseminating large amounts of satellite and aerial imagery.

They selected Pixia Corp., maker of rapid image access technology in Sterling, Va., to provide a baseline capability for serving up geospatial imagery via the Department’s Integrated Common Analytical Viewer (iCAV) system. The iCAV Web-based geospatial analytical and situational awareness system assists DHS mission partners in better preparing for, preventing, responding to, and recovering from natural and manmade disasters.

Pixia’s software and engineers enable users to add new imagery to the server as it is being acquired, without interrupting the service. The software is expected to reduce the lag time from image acquisition to image dissemination, ensuring the immediate availability of important imagery.
