Executives at Science Applications International Corp., the prime contractor for the Common Driver Trainer (CDT) program of the U.S. Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation (PEO STRI) in Orlando, Fla., sought a subcontractor to develop, produce, integrate, deliver simulator units, as well as provide training.

SAIC personnel partnered with FAAC, a subsidiary of Arotech Corp.’s Simulation and Training division in Ann Arbor, Mich., and placed an order for five Stryker Driving Simulators. The CDT Contractor team of SAIC and FAAC currently is fielding an initial order for nine Stryker simulators.

“The Common Driver Trainer Program is recognized as the Army’s choice for any new driver-training requirements for wheeled and tracked vehicles,” says Maj. Dan Gamel, CDT project director, U.S. Army PEO STRI PM Ground Combat Tactical Trainer. “The successful development of CDT and the initial variant for Stryker has validated the Common Driver Trainer concept, enabling production-only efforts like this order for additional Stryker Trainers, as well as laying the foundation for straightforward extension of the CDT to simulate other vehicles in the future.”
