GigaBeam gains Department of Defense order to support U.S. Navy with WiFiber technology

January 1, 2008

DURHAM, N.C.—GigaBeam Corp. in Durham, N.C., won a U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) order for one WiFiber link from Solana Technologies (STI) in San Diego, to support the U.S. Navy.

STI provides advanced network and communications solutions to commercial enterprises and governmental agencies. GigaBeam’s WiFiber technology is similar to terrestrial fiber in terms of speed and reliability.

WiFiber has an advantage over terrestrial fiber because WiFiber can be rapidly deployed and costs less to deploy than terrestrial fiber. WiFiber enables applications such as VoIP, Internet, video, and data transmission with security, high-speed, and robustness comparable to traditional fiber-optic cables, but with the advantages of wireless technology.

For more information, visit GigaBeam online at www.gigabeam.com, or STI at www.solanatech.com.
