GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms in Charlottesville, Va., is introducing the XMCV5 mezzanine card with Xilinx Virtex-5 field-programmable gate array (FPGA) technology for ground-mobile, aircraft, and naval applications like radar, sonar, signals intelligence (SIGINT), and image processing. “In demanding signal processing applications, many customers are turning to FPGA technology because of the flexibility and performance it brings,” says Peter Cavill, general manager of military and aerospace products at GE Fanuc. “The XMCV5 gives customers the flexibility to strike the right balance between hardware-oriented FPGA-based computing and software-based application code running on either PowerPC- or Intel-based platforms,” Cavill says. The mezzanine cards are available in five ruggedization levels for deployment in harsh conditions, and the XMCV5 can be mounted on GE Fanuc 3U and 6U single-board computers. It complies with the VITA-42 XMC mezzanine card base standard, and is available in PCI Express and Serial RapidIO configurations.
