Naval Surface Warfare Center employs FLIR Systems technology

November 1, 2008

Officials at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Crane Division in Crane, Ind., sought advanced visual technologies for their Short Range–Ground Mobility Visual Augmentation Systems (SR-GMVAS). They found their solution at FLIR Systems Inc. in Portland, Ore.

FLIR Systems won a $49.8 million firm-fixed price contract from NSWC to deliver a variant of the company’s Recon III electro-optic/infrared (EO/IR) system, which provides high-contrast imagery independent of lighting conditions and obscurants, such as smoke, light fog, and haze, says a company representative.

The systems will be installed on military ground vehicles to provide surveillance, identification, detection, and limited tracking capabilities in all light and weather conditions.

Work on the contract will take place at FLIR’s Boston facility. For more information, visit FLIR Systems online at www.flir.com.
