Kongsberg to supply Protector Remote Weapon Stations to U.S. Air Force, Army

November 1, 2008

Officials with the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army needed weapon stations as part of the $1.4 billion Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station (CROWS II) program. They gained the needed systems from Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS in Kongsberg, Norway.

Kongsberg won a $28.8 million contract from the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army to deliver Protector Remote Weapon Stations (RWS). It is the first contract Kongsberg has received from the Air Force for weapon stations.

CROWS, a joint acquisition program for weapon stations, is intended to deliver increased protection, training, support, and continued development. The Protector RWS, designed to mount on a variety of vehicle platforms, enables soldiers to acquire and engage targets while safely inside a vehicle.

Kongsberg engineers at production facilities in Johnstown, Pa., are manufacturing and delivering systems on the CROWS II contract in the U.S. For more information, visit Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS online at www.kongsberg.com.
