GE Fanuc offers PCI Express network packet processor

December 1, 2008

GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms in Charlottesville, Va., is introducing the WANic 5654 packet processor, which enables systems designers to analyze the content of data traffic. The packet processor helps OEMs develop wire-speed applications for telecommunications service providers and business enterprises to examine the content of traffic, gather statistics, perform traffic shaping and routing, and to add other content-aware services, GE Fanuc officials say. The 4-port Gigabit Ethernet IP WANic 5654 can support as many as 12 processors, and features the Cavium OCTEON Plus CN5650-NSP (network services processor) 600 MHz processor. The WANic 5654 works as fast as 4 gigabits per second line speed packet processing for layers 2–7 for network applications that must operate at multi-gigabit speeds. The device supports XAUI Ethernet board-to-board interconnect for multi-WANic 5654 implementations. For more information, visit GE Fanuc online at www.gefanucembedded.com.
