Engineers at an unnamed autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) manufacturing company partnered with Electrovaya in Toronto.

Electrovaya executives have received an initial order totaling roughly $500,000 for batteries to power AUVs. The company’s SuperPolymer technology is based on a lithium ion polymer battery technology. The technology enables Electrovaya engineers to produce batteries in thin sheets that can be stacked, folded, and shaped to forms desired by their customers. As a result, Electrovaya’s batteries are suitable for applications ranging from small-size tablet PCs to electric vehicles.

“The manufacturer has been testing Electrovaya’s Lithium Ion SuperPolymer cells in AUVs for more than two years, and has subjected them to full depth pressure during operation,” Dr. Sankar Das Gupta, CEO of Electrovaya, explains.
