Norsat delivers satellite equipment, services to Irish Department of Defence

April 1, 2008

Officials in the Republic of Ireland’s Department of Defence sought satellite system equipment, satellite capacity, training, and network services for the Irish Defence Forces peacekeeping mission to Chad.

They found what they needed at Norsat International Inc., a provider of intelligent satellite solutions in Vancouver, B.C. Norsat engineers won contract awards from Ireland’s Department of Defence valued at roughly $1.1 million Canadian dollars.

“These contract wins demonstrate our ability to leverage our core strengths as a satellite terminal provider to offer our customers a complete end-to-end solution,” says Dr. Amiee Chan, president and CEO, Norsat International Inc. “A fundamental component of our strategy is to drive growth by expanding our offering to include complementary value-added services. Development of this capability deepens our relationships with our customers and improves our competitive position in new sales opportunities.”

Norsat’s hardware and services bundle will enable the Irish Defence Forces’ 400 troops to establish broadband communication in the even the most remote areas of Chad, says a company representative. Irish Defence Forces personnel are among a 3,700-member European Union peacekeeping force in Chad. For additional information, visit Norsat International Inc. online at www.norsat.com.
