Getac Inc. in Lake Forest, Calif., is introducing the E100 lightweight rugged tablet computer. The E100, weighing 3 pounds, has a lithium-ion battery that lasts as long as five hours. The tablet has a magnesium alloy case. The E100 features a shock-mounted hard disk drive to ensure vibration and shock resistance and is equipped with a G-Sensor to protect data from sudden drops. For use in harsh weather conditions and to prevent damage from accidents the E100 complies with MIL-STD-810F and is IP-54 compliant. Sealed I/O caps and doors prevent solid particles and moisture such as dust, rain, and spillages from entering the unit. The tablet has an 8.4-inch TFT SVGA display with touch-screen functionality and Getac’s proprietary anti-reflection technology. A sunlight-readable LCD display is optional. The E100 has standard wireless 802.11b/g LAN connectivity. Optional connectivity facilities include: Bluetooth V2.0 and Wide Area Network technology (GPRD/EV-DO/HSDPA). The tablet has a Trusted Platform Module (TPM 1.2) or ‘Root-of-Trust,’ a chain of trust procedures monitoring every step, from pre-boot to OS load, to guard against unauthorized tampering from physical theft of software attack. The E100 also features password security options for supervisors/users which will lock the HDD if an unauthorized user attempts to enter the system (especially useful in the event of a theft).
