Air and Space Expeditionary Force secures deployment data with WebFocus

July 1, 2008

Officials at the U.S. Air and Space Expeditionary Force (AEF) Operations needed a Web-based tool to assist in their support of AEF missions to improve the U.S. Air Force’s ability to deploy humanitarian assistance missions to major regional conflicts. AEF missions pose a massive data-access and reporting challenge.

They found a solution in WebFocus software from Information Builders in New York. The tool enables flying units and support personnel to plan and execute missions. AEF Operations also adopted Information Builders’ Professional Services to provide strategic and tactical support.

Developers used the company’s software to devise a secure reporting portal through which information is available to authorized users on demand. The system is used throughout the Air Force, enabling Air Force personnel to retrieve information that is applicable to his level and role.

“It’s vitally important that information pertaining to each stage of an Air Force deployment process be readily available to Air Force commanders so they can exercise their best judgment related to deployment of Air Force capabilities all over the globe,” says Col. Robert Lala, deputy director of AEF Operations. “WebFocus gives us a common data platform for distributing AEF deployment information.”

WebFocus supports several types of security, and the reporting system automatically tailors the interface, report content, and functional privileges based on a user’s privileges and skills. Users within other military environments, such as the Pentagon, also can click on a report and obtain pertinent information.

“The U.S. military must be able to conduct operations on short notice, often in response to a crisis,” says Gerald Cohen, chief executive officer and founder of Information Builders. “Our technology is making it possible for AEF Operations personnel to understand what information is available and to better use that information to accomplish their missions.”
