Latin American customs agency orders American Science and Engineering ZBV

July 1, 2008

Customs officials in Latin America required advanced technology to aid them in their homeland security efforts and to detect various weapons and other contraband.

They found a solution from American Science and Engineering Inc. (AS&E), maker of x-ray detection technology in Billerica, Mass. AS&E gained an order for several Z Backscatter Vans (ZBVs), including operator training, service, and warranty. Three of the systems will be configured with Forwardscatter capability.

“The ZBV is a valuable tool for customs officials to detect drugs, weapons, contraband and stowaways—its speed and agility allows officials to respond quickly to border threats,” says Anthony Fabiano, president and chief executive officer. The ZBV provides flexibility and agility to support several security applications, and it is the only system that offers the ability to uncover organic threats with photo-like clarity, he continues.
