Hittite Microwave Corp. is introducing a family of 9.7 GHz latched comparators with low propagation delay, short minimum pulse width requirements, and low jitter. These silicon germanium monolithic, ultrafast comparator devices are for digital receivers, clock and data restoration circuits, pulse spectroscopy, ATE, and high-speed instrumentation. The HMC674LC3C has reduced swing PECL output drivers and latch inputs. Overdrive and slew rate dispersion are typically 10 picoseconds. The reduced swing PECL output stages are designed to directly drive 400 millivolts into 50 Ohms terminated to Vcco-2 volts while maintaining compatibility with other PECL logic families. The HMC675LC3C has reduced swing CML output drivers and latch inputs. Overdrive and slew rate dispersion are typically 10 picoseconds. The reduced swing CML output stage is designed to directly drive 200 millivolts into 50 Ohms terminated to ground. The HMC676LC3C has reduced swing ECL output drivers and latch inputs. Overdrive and slew rate dispersion are typically 10 picoseconds. The reduced swing ECL output stage is designed to directly drive 400 millivolts into 50 Ohms terminated to Vcci-2 volts. All three support 10 gigabits per second operation while providing 130 picoseconds propagation delay and 60 picoseconds minimum pulse width with 0.8 picoseconds rms random jitter. The HMC674LC3C, HMC675LC3C, and HMC676LC3C also feature differential latch control and programmable hysteresis, and they can be configured to operate in either latch mode, or as tracking comparators. These comparators are housed in compact ceramic RoHS-compliant, 3-by-3-millimeter SMT packages and specified for operation from -40 to 85 degrees Celsius.
