Proxim Wireless enhances security at Port de La Rochelle in France

August 1, 2008

The Port de La Rochelle, a 470-acre site on the west coast of France, is one of the largest commercial ports in Europe, gains more than 3000 visits per day, and is accessed by more than 10,000 badge holders. Authorities at the Port de La Rochelle sought to increase port security.

They found their surveillance solution: a wireless Internet Protocol-based system from Proxim Wireless Corp., a provider of core-to-client solutions for broadband wireless networks in San Jose, Calif. The wireless solution needed to offer security and video surveillance, personnel and vehicle access, control of shipping traffic, and IP telephony.

CTV, a Proxim Wireless certified partner, installed a wireless fiber ring using point-to-point Proxim Tsunami QuickBridge.11. The system connects all port entry points and provides redundancy in the event of link failure, as well as remotely grants or prevents access to visiting vehicles.

The Tsunami QuickBridge.11 uses the Proxim Wireless Outdoor Router Protocol to provide WiMAX capabilities and secured, outdoor wireless links.

The Proxim Tsunami QuickBridge.11 Series operates in the 2.4 GHz, 4.9 GHz, and 5.1–6.08 GHz frequency bands, as well as features enhanced security with AES encryption.
