North Atlantic Industries (NAI) in Bohemia, N.Y., is introducing a mil-spec 3U CompactPCI (cPCI) DC-DC converter, the 55MQ2, for military avionics, airborne, shipboard electronics, and ground applications. The 55MQ2 power electronics device provides 150 watts of output military power (+5, +3.3, and ±12 volts DC) at full load over its operating temperature range of -55 to 85 degrees Celsius (conduction cooled and measured at card edge). This rugged power converter is designed and manufactured to NAVSO P3641 component derating guidelines, and each unit receives ESS screening. The 55MQ2 military power supply contains an integrated EMI filter that complies with MIL-STD-461E, and its input complies with transient requirements of MIL-STD-704A through E. It is available with optional compliance for MIL-STD-1275, with reverse polarity protection. The 55MQ2 complies with PICMG 2.11, 47 position connector pin-out. It fits standard 3U cPCI or VPX 0.8-inch pitch. Its dimensions do not interfere with inter-board separation plane on either side. It is compatible with the Power Management Bus. The 55MQ2 provides current share capability to implement increased power output or for load sharing of two or more units. It is available with an optional I2C communication bus. Additional features include remote error sensing, short-circuit protection, current limiting, and overvoltage protection. Typical efficiency is 80 percent.
