Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing in Leesburg, Va., is introducing the XMC/PMC-550 rugged solid-state drive card for new systems and upgrades in space-constrained defense and aerospace applications that require large quantities of rugged data storage in harsh environments subject to shock and vibration. The XMC/PMC-550 comes in XMC and PMC form factors, and designed for legacy and latest rugged deployed applications. The XMC/PMC-550’s standard Serial ATA interface makes it suitable for VME VPX, and CompactPCI systems. The XMC/PMC-550 NAND Flash solid-state drive provides up to 32 gigabytes of disk space in an XMC (VITA 42.3) or PMC (IEEE1386.1) form factor.

It is available in configurations of 8, 16, or 32 gigabytes, and is visible to the system as two independent SATA drives. Using multi-tasking technology, the XMC/PMC-550 delivers data transfer rates as fast as 30 megabytes per second for simultaneous read to each drive. The XMC/PMC-550 also comes with RAID 0 support that stripes data across the two independent SATA drives for maximum performance. With RAID 0, the 550 can achieve a read transfer rate as fast as 50 megabytes per second.
