Engineers at Northrop Grumman Corp. in Reston, Va., working on the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) radio frequency identification (RFID) III contract sought to partner with a provider of active RFID, such as integrated sensor and application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) technologies. They found such a partner in Evigia Systems Inc. of Ann Arbor, Mich.

Northrop Grumman officials are buying ISO 18000-7 hardware from Evigia. The company’s active RFID products will be integrated into hardware being developed by Northrop Grumman, one of four contractors selected to work on the DOD’s $429 million RFID III contract.

Northrop Grumman’s Information Systems division will deliver active RFID hardware products, such as tags, readers, and mobile kits; accompanying software; and engineering services for the RFID III contract, managed by the Product Manager Joint-Automatic Identification Technology (PM J-AIT) on behalf of all U.S. Armed Services. Northrop Grumman will also provide maintenance, training, and data management services, reveals a representative.
