Army chooses Datron tactical radio military communications for overseas forces

Officials in the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) at Fort Monmouth, N.J., needed communications equipment for military personnel in Afghanistan. They found their solution at Datron World Communications Inc. in Vista, Calif.

Datron World Communica-tions won a $25.4 million U.S. Army sole-source contract to provide VHF military tactical radio communications systems for foreign military sales.

The company is providing two types of VHF tactical radios to the Afghan army: the PRC-1077 man-pack VHF radio and the HH7700 VHF handheld radio. The company also is delivering the Afghan army its RT-7000 long-range HF radio and the PRC-1099 man-portable HF radio. The contract includes spare parts and installation kits.

Work on the sole-source contract will be at Datron’s factory in Vista, Calif., and should be finished by early 2014.
