EMBEDDED COMPUTING: 3U VPX CPU board based on QorIQ P4080 processor introduced by GE

GE Intelligent Platforms in Charlottesville, Va., is introducing the rugged OpenVPX-compliant SBC312 3U VPX single-board computer based on the 8-core Freescale QorIQ P4080 processor for demanding space- and weight-constrained embedded computing applications, such as unmanned vehicles.

The SBC312, which also is available with the QorIQ 4-core P4040 processor, provides a technology insertion opportunity for existing users of the SBC310 and SBC330 boards. The SBC312 CPU board is available in five air- and conduction-cooled ruggedization levels, and in VITA-48 format for two-level maintenance. The computer offers as much as 4 gigabytes of dual-channel DDR3 memory, two x4 PCI Express Gen2 links, two 1000BaseT ports, two serial ports, two USB 2.0 ports, two SATA ports, and as many as eight GPIO ports. A PMC/XMC mezzanine site enables application-specific functionality to be added. The QorIQ processor implements one or more e500 Power Architecture cores at up to 1.5 GHz.
