INTEGRATED CIRCUITS: Microsemi RTAX-DSP FPGAs receive QML Class V and Q qualification for rad-hard use in space

The Microsemi Corp. SoC Products Group (formerly Actel Corp.) in San Jose, Calif., has earned Qualified Manufacturers List (QML) Class V and QML Class Q qualifications for the company's RTAX-DSP field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), which means the FPGAs are approved for use in satellites, manned spacecraft, and other space applications. Microsemi's radiation-hardened (rad-hard) QML-V FPGAs, which to various degrees are able to withstand the effects of naturally occurring radiation in space, undergo 2,000 hours of life testing on each wafer lot and destructive physical analysis on each assembly lot, company officials say. The company's RTAX-DSP FPGAs integrate complex digital signal processing (DSP) functions into one device for efficient signal processing in applications that require radiation tolerance.
