Cypress Semiconductor to mass-produce DRS uncooled infrared detector sensor technology

DRS Technologies Inc. in Arlington, Va., is partnering with Cypress Semiconductor Corp. in San Jose, Calif., to mass-produce uncooled infrared detectors for a wide variety of commercial and military electro-optical sensors. DRS will transfer its microbolometer technology for uncooled infrared detectors to Cypress for high-volume manufacturing, reveals a spokesperson. The proprietary production process, developed by the DRS Network and Imaging Systems (NIS) division of DRS Technologies, will transfer to the Cypress 65-nanometer, class 10, eight-inch wafer fabrication facility in Bloomington, Minn.
