SRI to develop military data security tool

Engineers at SRI International of Menlo Park, Calif., are developing a system that detects and analyzes suspicious computer events as a way to ensure the security and reliability of military systems. SRI experts are doing the work under contract to the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate in Rome, N.Y. The project is called Integration of NIDES/EMERALD Intrusion Detection Engines with the ISO Architecture. Primary funding comes from the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency in Arlington, Va. A primary goal is to detect such intrusions as the bypassing of access controls, system misuse, and viruses. - J.K.
