Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing in Leesburg, Va., is offering the PBOD Flash-disk PCI mezzanine card or Express mezzanine card that offers as much as 64 gigabytes of high-speed storage. The PBOD is for applications in harsh environments where extreme temperature, shock, or vibration renders mechanical hard disk drives impractical. The new Flash mezzanine card can function either as a just a bunch of disks (JBOD) or as a redundant array of independence disks (RAID) device via software support. The PBOD has native support in systems that use USB Flash drives. Using RAID software, data rates are faster than 40 megabytes per second, company officials say.
