ASHBURN, Va., 6 Jan. 2011. Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing in Ashburn, Va., is introducing the CHAMP-AV8 rugged OpenVPXdigital signal processing (DSP) single-board computer based on the new 2nd Generation Intel Core i7 processor for rugged deployed aerospace and defense applications. The CPU board has the quad-core Intel Core i7-2715QE processor and is available in air- and conduction-cooled configurations.

The rugged CHAMP-AV8 embedded computing board combines the improved floating-point performance of the Intel Core i7-2715QE processor with the bandwidth and system-enabling features of the 6U VPX form factor. The computer board's pair of quad-core processors feature Intel AVX floating-point instructions, and delivers performance rated as fast as 269 billion floating point operations per second.

Supporting the DSP engine's floating-point performance is a 21 gigabytes per second (peak) DDR3 memory sub-system that provides ample bandwidth to simultaneously serve CPU access and streaming I/O from its Serial RapidIO and PCI Express interfaces.

The CHAMP-AV8 incorporates the OpenVPX (VITA 65) standard with data plane, expansion plane, and control plane interfaces. Supporting Gen2 Serial RapidIO and second-generation PCI Express interfaces.

"The embedded Intel Core i7-2715QE processor is ideal for advanced signal processing systems in the rugged deployed aerospace and defense market segment," says Matt Langman, director of product marketing at the Intel Embedded Computing Division in Chandler, Ariz.
