Dot Hill, Phoenix International join hands to provide rugged data storage for Joint STARS and AWACS

LONGMONT, Colo., 22 Sept. 2011. Data storage specialist Dot Hill Systems Corp. in Longmont, Colo., is joining hands with Phoenix International Systems in Orange, Calif., to develop and build a ruggedized data storage system for two major U.S. airborne military surveillance systems. Dot Hill and Phoenix International have signed an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) agreement to integrate Dot Hill's 3000 series redundant array of independent disks (RAID) controller with Phoenix International rugged data storage technology for deployment on the Northrop Grumman Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint-STARS) aircraft, as well as the Boeing Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) surveillance aircraft.

AWACS, meanwhile, provides surveillance, command and control, and communications for military aircraft as a kind of air traffic controller in the sky.
