Rugged PCI/104 single-board computer for military and transportation applications introduced by Advantech

Sept. 7, 2011
MILPITAS, Calif., 7 Sept. 2011. Advantech America in Milpitas, Calif., is introducing the PCM-3363 PCI/104 rugged single-board computer for outdoor use in military and transportation embedded computing applications. The computer board uses an Intel Atom N455/D525 microprocessor, and supports 1 gigabyte of soldered DDRIII 800 MHz SDRAM solid-state memory. The N455 consumes nine Watts, while the D525 consumes 13 Watts. The PCM-3363 comes with extreme cold start and voltage dip protection, which enables the board to function in temperatures as cold as -40 degrees Celsius by ensuring all components reach working temperature.

The board also protects against abnormal transient power fluctuations to make suitable for unmanned and outdoor applications that can have unstable mains power, Advantech officials say.The PCM-3363 adopts the IEC standard for electro-static discharge protection for the COM port transceiver with 15-kilovolt air gap protection/8-kilovolt contact protection for RS-232. The board meets a signal intensity verification process, and uses highly accelerated life testing (HALT) to find weak points, design issues, or material limitations.

The PCM-3363 also uses soldered memory and locked connectors to strengthen shock and vibration resistance. The board has a graphics core with 224 megabytes shared memory to handle 2D/3D graphic processing, and has dual display ports. Software support includes GPIO, SMBus, GPIO, watchdog timer, H/W monitor, brightness on/off, CPU speed and system throttling utilities.
