SAN JOSE, Calif., 26 Dec. 2012. The Microsemi Corp. SoC Products Group (formerly Actel Corp.) in San Jose, Calif., has earned Qualified Manufacturers List (QML) Class V and QML Class Q qualifications for the company's RTAX-DSP field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), which means the FPGAs are approved for use in satellites, manned spacecraft, and other space applications.

Microsemi's radiation-hardened (rad-hard) QML-V FPGAs, which to various degrees are able to withstand the effects of naturally occurring radiation in space, undergo 2,000 hours of life testing on each wafer lot and destructive physical analysis on each assembly lot, company officials say.

The company's RTAX-DSP FPGAs integrate complex digital signal processing (DSP) functions into one device for efficient signal processing in applications that require radiation tolerance.

RTAX-DSP FPGAs have embedded DSP multiply-accumulate mathblocks, which are protected by design against radiation-induced single event effects in space environments. The DSP mathblocks can perform at speeds to 125 megahertz (MHz) across military temperatures and voltages.

Microsemi provides space products such as converters, FPGAs, customizable system-on-chip (cSoC) solutions, MOSFETS, rectifiers, switching diodes, transistors, DC-DC converters, and zener diodes.
