Navy chooses 6U CompactPCI single-board computers from Concurrent for LCAC C4N

Officials of the Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division (NSWC PCD) in Panama City, Fla., say they intend to award a sole-source contract to Concurrent Technologies for 72 PP 402/041-25E embedded computing boards for the LCAC command, control, communications, computers, and navigation (C4N) system.

Concurrent Technologies is the design authority and manufacturer of these interface boards that meet form, fit, function, and interchangeability requirements for the LCAC C4N system, Navy officials say.

Concurrent owns the design rights, and finding another company to provide a suitable replacement for this product would take too much time and money, Navy officials say. The Navy did not purchase data rights sufficient to perform a competitive procurement, and no other source for these items currently exists, Navy officials say.

The single-board computers from Concurrent Technologies are for the LCAC C4N system baseline configuration, for which the company's boards are already qualified, Navy officials say. The LCAC C4N system is being upgraded to enhance capability and to mitigate technology obsolescence issues.

The Concurrent Technologies PP 402/04x computer board is based on the Intel Core 2 Duo microprocessor. The board supports as much as 4 gigabytes of DDR2 SDRAM and interfaces that include an on-board CompactFlash drive and an optional on-board SATA hard disk drive.

The board can accommodate a PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC), and offers high-performance networking from four Gigabit Ethernet links. The module also complies with the PICMG 2.16 packet switching backplane specification. Software support includes Linux , Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows XP Embedded, Windows Server 2003, Solaris, LynxOS, QNX, and VxWorks.

Although Navy officials say they will negotiate only with Concurrent Technologies for this contract, companies that wish to respond should email the Navy's Courtney Henslee at [email protected] no later than 9 July 2013.
