WASHINGTON, 11 June 2013. U.S. Navy expeditionary warfare experts will brief industry on 25 June 2013 on upcoming contracting opportunities to help Navy and Marine Corps special operations warfighters operate more effectively in operations between sea and shore that involve stealthy troop insertion by submarine.
Officials of the Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington will discuss an upcoming solicitation called Confronting Expeditionary Warfare Capability Challenges that will identify key technologies for expeditionary warfare, particularly for mine warfare; special warfare; expeditionary prepositioning and logistics; navy expeditionary combat; and expeditionary warfare training.
Briefings will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on 25 June at Dell, 300 M St., Suite 300, in Washington. Session are unclassified, and attendance is free and open only to U.S. citizens. Attendees must sign in and present ID.
Expeditionary warfare describes independent and rapidly deployable military units fighting away from established bases and supply lines, ranging from special forces raids to full-scale amphibious attacks.
Overseeing the briefings are officials from the Navy's Program Executive Office for Submarines (PEOSUB) of the Naval Sea Systems Command's Program Manager for Advanced Submarine Systems Development Program Office (SEA 073).
SEA 073 develops technologies for future and modernized submarine classes. The organization's Expeditionary Warfare Innovations Branch is developing technologies to insert and recover independent fighting units ashore from submarines.
The Navy will issue a formal broad agency announcement (BAA) for the Confronting Expeditionary Warfare Capability Challenges program by late July, officials say.
