ROCHESTER, N.Y., 22 Sept. 2013. The Harris Corp. RF Communications segment in Rochester, N.Y., received $38 million in orders during the fourth quarter of fiscal 2013 for tactical radios that will expand deployment of wideband tactical communications across the U.S. Air Force, company officials say.
Harris will supply the Air Force with additional Falcon III AN/PRC-117G multiband manpack and AN/PRC-152A multiband handheld tactical radio systems. The radios will accelerate the rollout of Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) wideband networking capabilities to para-rescue, combat communications, and other Air Force personnel, Harris officials say.
The Falcon III radios provide secure voice communications and enable operators to send and receive images, video, emails, text messages, and participate in teleconferences.
The Air Force is deploying the JTRS-certified radios to provide two-channel communication capabilities. JTRS-certified wideband networking enables users to connect to the Global Information Grid, a secure, classified version of the Internet.
Falcon III provides enhanced situational awareness of the battlefield through integrated line-of-sight, beyond-line-of-sight and wideband communications, company officials say.
Both radios are equipped with the Harris Adaptive Networking Wideband Waveform, which enable military forces to interoperate with battle management software applications for situational awareness. The radios are certified to operate JTRS Soldier Radio Waveform and work with other Air Force capabilities such as the HAVE QUICK and APCO Project-25 waveforms.
