PALO ALTO, Calif., 16 Oct. 2013. Executives of RF and microwave specialist Communications & Power Industries LLC (CPI) in Palo Alto, Calif., are boosting their company's expertise in radomes, electronically steerable antennas, and structural composites with their acquisition of Radant Technologies Inc. (RTI) in Stow, Mass.

The acquisition adds radomes for radar, electronic warfare (EW), and communications applications to CPI's portfolio of RF and microwave products, company officials say. CPI acquired the privately held RTI using cash on hand. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

A radome is a weatherproof structure that encloses and protects a microwave antenna without interfering with the antenna's ability to transmit or receive electromagnetic signals. RTI has a presence in airborne wideband communications systems for military and commercial applications.

RTI's patented technology and specialized products for radar, EW, and communications extend CPI's expertise in RF, microwave, power, company officials say. RTI and CPI serve several of the same markets.

RTI's products are customized for each system and application based on the operational frequency, RF-performance, structural, and environmental requirements of the end system. RTI's products cover frequencies to 95 gigahertz and sizes to 15 feet in one piece.

CPI will operate RTI as an independent division of CPI, which specializes in RF, microwave, power, and control solutions for defense, communications, medical, and scientific applications.
