CYPRESS, Calif., 2 Oct. 2013. Mercury Defense Systems in Cypress, Calif., will provide advanced digital RF memory (DRFM) jammers to the U.S. Navy under terms of a $3.9 million contract that Mercury announced Monday. Mercury Defense Systems is a subsidiary of Mercury Systems in Chelmsford, Mass.
The electronic warfare (EW) jammers will be delivered to the U.S. Navy at the Ventura County Naval Base at Point Mugu, Calif., for airborne EW training, Mercury officials say. The Mercury Defense Systems DRFM products have been used for self-protection, vulnerability assessment, training, and radar environment simulation.
The contract is part of a five-year sole source basic ordering agreement (BOA) to deliver DRFM jammers to the Navy. Through this and subsequent BOA contracts, Mercury and the Navy will continue developing techniques and target generation capabilities with the DRFM architecture.
Engineers developed the Mercury DRFM technology under a prior small business innovation research (SBIR) phase II.5 award previously issued to KOR Electronics, now Mercury Defense Systems. Mercury officials say the expect to ship the order by spring 2015.
