BLACKSBURG, Va., 25 Nov. 2013. VPT Inc. in Blacksburg, Va., is introducing U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) Standard Microcircuit Drawings (SMDs) for VPT's SVR series of radiation-hardened DC-DC converters, point of load converters, and EMI filters. VPT's SVR series power electronics products were developed for extreme conditions in space.

An SMD depicts the government's requirements for an existing commercial microcircuit that tested for a military application. An SMD discloses applicable configuration, envelope dimensions, mounting and mating dimensions, interface dimensional characteristics, specified performance requirements, and inspection and acceptance test requirements as appropriate for a military environment.

The SMD program is intended to prevent the proliferation of contractor-developed drawings describing generic microcircuits as if they were program-unique devices. SMDs cover off-the-shelf high-reliability microcircuits for military applications, using only one standardized document. The program increases the manufacturing base for DOD procurement and helps the government save money.

VPT's SVR series, which includes 24 modules in seven product families, is suited for use in spacecraft operating in low-Earth orbit, medium-Earth orbit, geosynchronous orbit, and deep space, as well as for launch vehicles.

The SVR series originally was introduced in May 2013, and features maximum levels of radiation hardening with a total ionizing dose (TID) of 100 kilorads (Si) and single-even-upsets of 85 MeV-cm2/mg.

The SVR series is available qualified to MIL-PRF-38534 Class H and Class K, and are manufactured in accordance with the Aerospace Corp. Technical Operating Report (TOR) requirements for space power systems.

The VPT SVR series available on DOD SMDs consists of SMD# 5962-13231: SVRHF 15-Watt single output DC-DC converter; SMD# 5962-13232: SVRHF 15-Watt dual outputs DC-DC converter; SMD# 5962-13209: SVRTR 40-Watt single output DC-DC converter; SMD# 5962-13210: SVRTR 40-Watt dual outputs DC-DC converter; SMD# 5962-13233: SVRFL 100-Watt single output DC-DC converter; SMD# 5962-13234: SVRFL 100-Watt dual output DC-DC converter; SMD# 5962-13217: SVRGA 8A point of load DC-DC converter; SMD# 13011: SVRMH 2-amp EMI filter; SMD# 13010: SVRMC 4-amp EMI filter; and SMD# 13009: SVRME 10-amp EMI filter.
