ORANGE, Calif., 25 April 2014. Phoenix International Systems Inc. in Orange, Calif., is introducing the VP1-250-SSDC 3U Solid State Disk VPX storage module with 1 terabyte of data storage capacity for aerospace, defense, and other rugged applications.

The VP1-250-SSDC is a bootable 3U conduction-cooled VPX drive storage module with REDI (VITA 48) covers supporting an operating temperature range of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius.

The VP1-250-SSDC connects to the CPU via SATA signals or by PCI Express signals through an on-board controller. The use of single level cell (SLC) NAND flash combined with Phoenix flash management provides write endurance of greater than 27 years with 10 daily program and erase cycles of the entire drive.

The storage module optionally includes the data encryption function, providing 256-bit AES ECB/CBC strength, NIST, CSE, and FIPS 140-2 certified encryption solution.

With several ways to support key management, Phoenix offers the ability to tailor to specific requirements. The encryption engine is hardware based, hence eliminates the need and the risk of using software components.

Also available is a data-elimination function: FAST ERASE and PURGE. FAST ERASE eliminates the data from all physical media locations by performing a single erase. PURGE eliminates the data and the data remnants that could otherwise enable user data recovery in the lab. PURGE requires multiple erase and overwrites, and in some cases includes verification, as governed by different standards.
