BOHEMIA, N.Y., 27 Jan. 2015. Data Device Corp. (DDC) in Bohemia, N.Y., is introducing the RP-20S19XXX eight-channel solid-state power controller (SSPC) in a ruggedized military-grade form factor for military ground vehicles and similar applications.

The power electronics device for vetronics applications offers programmability and high-power density in a compact, highly reliable package, improved reliability, smart power control, and provides significant size, weight, power and cost (SWaP-C) savings compared with mechanical switches, breakers, and relays, DDC officials say.

These power distribution units enable a 7X power-to-volume and 5X power-to-weight savings, compared with larger enclosed mechanical alternatives, while extending mission range. The units offer a 70 percent reduction in power dissipation energy through intelligent load shedding and prioritization.

DDC's SSPCs have a 25X improved mean times between failures compared with mechanical switches, breakers, and relays that have moving parts that are more prone to failure. They also provide real-time vehicle health and diagnostic data to enable preventative and automated maintenance.

The power units offer network control, programmability, and autonomous operation to simplify vehicle control and provide channel paralleling, controlled rise/fall times, and ampere squared seconds (I2t) trip protection.

DDC's SSPCs also offer CANbus interfacing, discrete control interfaces, and programmability for each channel within a 10:1 current range, from 2.5 to 25 amps. For more information contact DDC online at www.ddc-web.com.
