Officials of the Procurement Branch of the Coast Guard Surface Forces Logistics Center in Oakland, Calif., issued a solicitation this week (HSCG40-15-Q-40374) for Red Lion and its distributors to submit quotations for 125 of Red Lion's Sixnet brand SLX-10MG-1 managed industrial Ethernet switches.
Red Lion engineers manufacturer these switches at their company's Sixnet business in Ballston Lake, N.Y. The SLX-10MG is a 10-port industrial Ethernet managed switch with seven fast and three Gigabit ports of which two are combination ports that support copper and fiber optic connections.
This switch is designed to be rugged, reliable, real-time and secure. It combines compact DIN rail packaging, protected circuitry and software to keep systems going under tough environmental conditions, company officials say.
The switch uses the company's Real-Time-Ring or Rapid Spanning Tree (RSTP) for fast redundant ring or mesh networks, and employs authentication and encryption for security. It operates in temperatures from -40 to 75 degrees Celsius and has redundant dual power inputs.
The unit resists shock and vibration per IEC60068-2-6, -27, and operates to altitudes as high as 30,000 feet. It uses DIN rail or direct panel mounting, has a corrosion-resistant aluminum case, measures 6.02 by 5.52 by 1.63 inches, and weighs 12 ounces.

Coast Guard officials are asking Red Lion, its distributors, or any other sources of this Ethernet switch to email price quotes no later than 6 July 2015 to the Coast Guard's Dwayne Butler at [email protected]. Delivery is to be to the Coast Guard's Surface Forces Logistics Center in Baltimore.
