WASHINGTON — In-depth discussions about the commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) content of the U.S. Marine Corps Advanced Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAAV), and the future U.S. Army Crusader self-propelled artillery system will highlight the COTScon East 2001 conference and exhibition May 30 and 31 in Washington, D.C.
Speaking on the use of COTS in the AAAV will be Russell Heal of General Dynamics Amphibious Systems and Computing Devices Canada, and speaking on the Crusader will be Larry Yung from the U.S. Army's Picatinny Arsenal, N.J.
An additional highlight of the conference will be an analysis of the COTS content in the avionics of the U.S. Army's future RAH-66 Comanche scout-attack helicopter.
The COTScon conference this year, for the first time, will feature two panel discussions featuring industry and government experts who will debate the merits of the DO-178B standard for systems reliability, and emerging new approaches to radiation-hardened commercial-grade electronic components.
Also notable at COTScon East 2001 will be presentations on choosing the best hardware form factor for the airborne domain of the Joint Tactical Radio System, COTS electronic countermeasures for the EA-6B Prowler aircraft, COTS systems in next-generation unmanned aerial vehicle mission payloads, different vulnerability test and verification approaches.
The two-day COTScon East 2001 conference is at the Renaissance Washington D.C. Hotel in Washington. The event is for engineers, engineering managers, and government leaders who are involved in the specification, design, and procurement of military and aerospace electronics systems.
An integral part of the event is the COTS Exhibit Hall, featuring demonstrations and presentations from 75 of the most influential COTS suppliers in the industry. Lunch and a networking reception will be on the exhibit floor.
The cost to attend COTScon East 2001 is $675. The conference proceedings alone cost $195. An exhibits-only pass is available for $50.
