BOHEMIA, N.Y. — Leaders of Data Device Corp. (DDC) in Bohemia, N.Y., struck a deal with an Israeli test and measurement vendor May 1 to become the exclusive worldwide distributor of the dataMARS and dataSIMS databus analyzers.
DDC officials made the distribution agreement with leaders of Ampol Technologies Ltd. of Kfar Saba, Israel, the makers of dataMARS and dataSIMS, "to provide a turnkey solution for avionics systems integration, data analysis, and data simulation," says Mike Hegarty, product line manager at DDC.
The dataSIMS and dataMARS tools are PC-based systems that monitor, analyze, retrieve, and simulate MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, and custom serial avionics databuses. DDC provides 1553 and ARINC 429 interface hardware.
"Ampol is strong in software and makes no hardware." Hegarty says. "DDC is strong in hardware but we are not at the leading edge in software. We are taking this software, independent of hardware, and bring it into the mainstream."
DDC officials say they plan to introduce their versions of dataMARS and dataSIMS in 16-bit formats, and this fall plan to introduce 32-bit versions. In addition, they will apply the two tools to DDC's 1553 and 429 products in PCI, PCMCIA, 6U VME, PC/104, as well as 3U and 6U Compact PCI, Hegarty says.
"The fundamental core of these products is the real-time conversion of raw data into engineering units, and vice versa for simulation," Hegarty says.
"In traditional simulation tools you don't see engineering units," he continues. "You also don't see engine temperature, airspeed, and whatever information is going across the bus because it is in its raw data format. But you want to see the actual data, so you need to convert that data from its raw format into its true data format, so you can see airspeed, and roll, pitch, and heading, rather than just numbers."
The two tools have programmable databases with conversion factors, and can track these numbers in real time, he says.
