BALTIMORE — Michael J. Hershman, president and chief executive officer of The Civitas Group in New York, will analyze the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) budget request for contract opportunities in his second-day keynote address at the Homeland Security Solutions Conference and Exhibition 2004 May 18 and 19 in Baltimore.

The second annual Homeland Security Solutions Conference & Exhibition 2004 brings together government and industry leaders who need to meet homeland security challenges in their own organizations, and systems integrators whose primary jobs are to build the most effective new solutions for homeland security. This conference, which is for program managers and executive managers in government and industry who buy or supply technological solutions for homeland security, highlights the most innovative systems for safeguarding U.S. citizens and resources, as well as the most pressing needs and the most promising opportunities related to homeland security.
John C. Schmidt, director of Northrop Grumman's brand new Chem-Bio Defense Technology Center in Baltimore will speak on the latest technologies to defend against biological and chemical attacks.
The center develops technologies that build on the Northrop Grumman Biohazard Detection System, being installed in U.S. Postal Service facilities nationwide. The Center will use mass spectrometry, electro-optics, and microelectromechanical systems bioassays to detect and identify minute amounts of chemical or biological agents.
Marko Bourne, deputy DHS director of preparedness, will give the first-day keynote address on the role of the private sector in equipping first responders. Also on the first day, a panel of homeland security prime contractors will discuss market trends, lessons learned, and a roadmap for technology solutions.
Panelists include Suzanne Jenniches, vice president and general manager of Northrop Grumman's Government Systems Division, Tom Davis, director of strategic planning for Northrop Grumman, and a speaker from BAE Systems. Boeing and Raytheon are also invited.
