Universal avionics digital interface
Officials of BMC Communications Corp. in Westbury, N.Y., are offering their Universal Avionics Digital Interface (UADI), a plug-and-run device that enables engineers to program firmware in the field through a computer.
The UADI supports communications protocols MIL-STD-1553 dual-redundant interface, ARINC 708/453, ARINC two-wire/six-wire protocols such as 429/575/571/572/581/582/615/, and RS-232/422.
The avionics refurbishing business is growing, yet one of the compatibility requirements for new avionics equipment calls for meeting either STANAG 3838 or MIL-STD-1553 standard. VME card for motor drive power control
Officials of North Atlantic Industries (NAI) in Bohemia, N.Y., are offering a conduction-cooled, dual, four-quadrant, bidirectional VME card to control power to DC motors, called the 64PW3.
The card has two PWM motor drives, each of which accepts 65 volts of DC power input and provides a 5-amp maximum, continuous current output to a DC motor. The 64PW3 offers continuous background self-testing, as well as optional RS-422, A-D, D-A, or dual R-D interfaces.
The 64PW3 motor drives can operate for either current control or voltage control via the VME bus. The card controls motors with the optional RS-422 serial data link. Both output drives shut down via a discrete opto-isolated logic input to the card. The 64PW3 operates over temperatures ranging from -40 to 85 degrees Celsius, and has 800-hertz open-loop bandwidth, short-circuit protected outputs, and watchdog timer.

VME64 bus-to-bus adapters
Officials of SBS Technologies in Albuquerque, N.M., are offering a family of VME64 bus-to-bus adapters, the SBS 8x0 series, which connect two buses: one VME64 with another VME64, or a VME64 with a PCI, PMC, or CompactPCI bus.
These adapters, which effectively create one virtual bus, create a PCI mezzanine card (PMC) that can access a remote VME bus. These adapters are for connecting VME systems to a PC, workstation, or CompactPCI system, and can eliminate the need for a single-board computer or enable a VME user to migrate to another technology while preserving the existing VMEbus investment. The adapters allow each system's bus to operate independently and affect bus bandwidth only when one system makes a memory or I/O reference to another.
Another feature involves memory-mapping RAM, which allows systems designers to map any memory location on the VME bus in the address space of the other bus. A processor on one bus can use a programmed I/O to read and write a remote memory location transparently, just as if it were a local bus access with as little as 2 microseconds of latency.

Add-on network-management software for the TCP/IP stack

Self-clinching panel fasteners

High-linearity active upconverting mixers
Linear Technology in Milpitas, Calif., is offering two high-linearity upconverting RF active mixers with integrated RF transformers — the LT5519 and LT5520. These devices have low distortion, low local-oscillator-drive requirement, high port-to-port isolation, and low conversion loss. High-speed USB device for JTAG/BDM debugging

The RM920's management software capabilities include quality of service on Layers 2/3 and 802.1p tag, deep packet filtering, link aggregation (802.3ad), spanning tree, rapid spanning tree protocol (RSTP), 802.1Q VLAN standard, broadcast storm control and port mirroring. All ports route to the front panel and can have mixed combinations of copper (RJ45) and fiber (LC) connectors. The device is available in two variants, the RM920 for applications with 10 ports of Gigabit Ethernet (single slot) or as many as 20 ports Gigabit Ethernet (dual slot), such as high-speed interconnects within a server-blade chassis or core switches in fault-tolerant clusters of embedded systems.
