Vmetro in Houston is offering Linux software support for its Vortex data recorder family and the PowerMIDAS 5000 single-board computer and I/O carrier. The Vortex VME, CompactPCI, and PC recorders and the PowerMIDAS 5000 (VME and CompactPCI) board support packages support Linux in addition to VxWorks and Windows platforms. This support enables integration of third-party PMC and PCI cards with Linux drivers, allowing access to a wide range of I/O modules, Vmetro officials say. For VME and CompactPCI-based products, Vmetro supports embedded Linux distributions based on version 2.6 of the open-source Linux kernel for real-time performance. The distributions are compatible with TimeStorm Linux development kits from TimeSys. For the PC-based products, most available distributions are supported. For more information contact Vmetro online at www.vmetro.com.
