Wescor International in Logan, Utah, needed a barometric pressure transducer for its weather-monitoring sensors, which Wescor supplies to the federal government, universities, cities, and private industry.
They found their solution with the Model 278 barometric pressure transducer from Setra Systems Inc. in Boxborough, Mass., for the Wescor S-470 barometer.
The company’s weather sensors include anemometers, solar radiation sensors, soil moisture sensors, and leaf wetness sensors. Setra Systems, meanwhile, provides instrumentation for measuring pressure and vacuum.
“Setra’s Model 278 has the fast, dynamic response and accurate, high-level output signal that customers of today’s technologically advanced weather-station monitoring systems require,” says Kathy Abel, sales manager for Wescor’s Environmental Products Division.
Setra “had the responsiveness Wescor demands, with the ability to deliver a great product at a great price in just two to four weeks,” Abel says.
“For about a year, I’ve been testing the Setra 278, side-by-side against available transducers, including the competitor’s model we had been using” says Lynn Leishman, Wescor senior technician. “The 278 provided virtually the same accuracy and performance, while surpassing the competitors’ models in a number of areas.”
The accuracy of the Model 278 is specified over a temperature range of -40 to 60 degrees Celsius, with accuracies to within ±0.3 hPa/Mb of the full-scale pressure range. In addition, Setra’s 278 is available in pressure ranges from 500 to 1100 millibars, 600 to 1100 millibars, and 800 to 1100 millibars. For more information contact Setra online at www.setra.com.
