Members of the U.S. Air Force Infostructure Architecture Council (IAC) have approved the SecNet 11 Plus secure wireless local area network from Harris Corp. in Melbourne, Fla., for Air Force networks, including the Secret Internet Protocol Network (SIPRNet) of the U.S. Department of Defense. This approval includes the SecNet 11 Plus in the Air Force Communications and Information Infostructure Technology Reference Model (i-TRM), the official repository for Air Force communications and information (C&I) technical standards. Following completion of a pilot test of SecNet 11 Plus at McGuire Air Force Base, N.J., in August, additional guidance will be available on how to integrate SecNet Plus into the Air Force’s enterprise network. The SecNet 11 Plus PC Card is an NSA-certified, 802.11b wireless network interface card with type 1 cryptography, and can deliver secure data, video, and Voice over IP at the secret level at 11 megabits-per-second. Incorporating the Harris Sierra Encryption Module, SecNet 11 Plus enables government agencies to use state-of-the-art wireless LAN technology in a secure environment.
