Fiberguide Industries Inc. in Stirling, N.J., is offering a line of high-power laser delivery assemblies using the company’s custom-designed high-power SMA (“HP-SMA”) connector. The HP-SMA uses “air gap” technology to eliminate all energy-absorbing materials at the fiber end. The cantilevered fiber end can accept very high power levels that would normally destroy a traditional fiber termination. A unique thermally and mechanically connected heat sink conducts most of the generated heat away from the fiber. Features of the HP-SMA design include standard core diameters ranging from 200 to 1500 microns with N.A.’s ranging from 0.12, 0.22 (standard), 0.26, and 0.39 (standard) Also available using plastic-clad silica (PCS) and new hard-optical-polymer-clad (HOPC) fibers are relatively small-diameter fibers that incorporate a pure fused silica sleeve at the tip to support the fiber without addition of energy absorbing materials. Applications include military, astronomy, metal cutting, welding, precision machining, and machine processing. For more information contact Fiberguide online at www.fiberguide.com.
