Officials of AdaCore in New York are extending the company’s GNAT Pro Ada development tool suite to support the Freescale Semiconductor Inc. AltiVec microprocessor instruction set. Software designers at European missile manufacturer MBDA Ltd. in London initiated the ability to access AltiVec instructions from Ada. “Using Ada with AltiVec gives MBDA the ability to reliably extract the maximum performance from the smallest number of processors,” says Rod White, MBDA Technologist at the recent Ada-Europe conference in June. “The result is lower system costs and reduced power consumption, plus Ada’s rigorous structuring ensures long-term code maintainability.” For more information contact AdaCore online at www.adacore.com.
