Northrop Grumman demonstrated Hawkeye 2000 at Aero India
Northrop Grumman Corp. in Los Angeles was to demonstrate the capabilities of the Hawkeye 2000 carrier-based airborne early warning aircraft at the Aero India 2005 Air Show last month in Bangalore, India. The company builds the Hawkeye 2000 for the U.S. Navy, and is offering the aircraft to the Indian navy. The aircraft offers an automated target-detection-and-tracking capability, the ability to manage operations, and interoperates with other Hawkeye 2000 aircraft. The new version of the aircraft has an open-system architecture based on commercial off-the-shelf technology.
Development platform eyes satellite communications
Spectrum Signal Processing Inc. in Burnaby, British Columbia, developed the flexComm SDR-2000 SRDP, satellite communications (SATCOM) rapid-prototyping and development platform to help designers create rapid prototypes of satellite ground stations supporting bi-directional communications with multiple remote terminals. Boeing tests helmet-mounted cueing system
Aerospace engineers at the Boeing Co. in St. Louis are conducting flight tests at China Lake Naval Air Warfare Center, Calif., on the Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System (JHMCS) mounted in the aft cockpits of the U.S. Navy’s F/A-18 Hornet jet fighter-bomber. The helmet is part of the F-15, F-16, and F/A-18 aircraft in the forward cockpits, the latest tests are the first time both the pilot and weapon systems officer have used the helmet during flight. It is the first step toward putting JHMCS in the F/A-18D and F/A-18F aircraft. The systems gives flight crews the ability to acquire and designate a target rapidly simply by looking at it.
