Network engineers in the U.S. Department of Defense needed remote communications units for mobile military forces. They found a solution with the Mobile Command Center Ultra Light Kit from Dataline in Norfolk, Va.

Dataline is under contract with the U.S. Navy and Joint Forces Command to deliver the Mobile Command Center to DOD and civilian agencies worldwide. The company has already delivered more than 80 units and expects to deliver 75 more before summer.

The Mobile Command Center is a portable communications unit that allows real-time, secure communication for e-mail, telephone, data, and video conferencing between commanders, soldiers, and deployed units anywhere in the world.

This lightweight version weighs between 40 and 60 pounds; small enough to fit on a commercial aircraft, either under the seat or in the overhead compartment. Previous versions weighed 75 pounds and were relatively large.

The new Ultra Light Kit also allows customers to use a public Internet connection from their hotel rooms or other locations, saving money by using a broadband connection instead of satellite airtime. Multiple networks at different security levels can handle communication between military or other forces. For additional information, visit www.dataline.com.
