Fiber Instrument Sales Inc. (FIS) in Oriskany, N.Y., is offering a long-range fiber-optic video camera for military bases, airports and other large facilities. The camera transmits a signal as far as eight kilometers over fiber-optic cable without amplification, which is about 17 times farther than cameras that use coaxial cable, FIS officials say. The camera transmission range extends to 20 kilometers when used with a laser transmitter. Fiber-optic transmission cable is immune to electromagnetic interference (EMI). The camera includes a vandal-resistant housing, optical converter, voltage regulator, CCD camera, 3.5-to-8 millimeter vari-focal auto-iris lens, sun shroud, camera mount, and ST connectors. Options include heater, and choice of multimode or single-mode cameras in color or black and white. The color version switches to black and white at night for maximum image quality.
