Imperx Inc. in Boca Raton, Fla., added a thermoelectric cooler option to its 11M5 Lynx machine-vision camera that offers high sensitivity, dark current, and noise stability. With a resolution of 4,000 by 2,672 pixels (10.7 megapixels) and relatively low power consumption, Lynx IPX-11M5 smart cameras are under control of their on-board intelligence. Adding Peltier-effect thermoelectric cooling controls the temperature of the Lynx IPX-11M5-LT camera’s CCD at a 20-degree-Celsius C setpoint to stabilize the device’s sensitivity, dark current, and noise. “Thermoelectrically cooling the large-format Lynx camera makes it suitable for the most demanding scientific and industrial applications where sensitivity, dark current, and noise variations have made it difficult or impossible to take advantage of smart cameras with large-format CCDs in the past,” says Petko Dinev, Imperx president.
