Military & Aerospace Electronics is kicking off the New Year with an addition to our editorial lineup called Finish Line-a monthly digest of technology market trends of interest to military and aerospace systems designers and program managers.

The new section has an easily found permanent home opposite the inside back cover of the magazine, where readers can get a quick snapshot of current technology market trends, often accompanied by charts and tables that show where a wide variety of technologies are headed.

This new section, in short, is a quick-read overview of important business developments of influence to our technology community. By introducing Finish Line, we are adding a financial dimension to Military & Aerospace Electronics magazine that has been long in coming.

This month the Finish Line section highlights market trends in DC-DC converters, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), and power supplies.

Future sections will detail short-term and long-term market trends in technologies such as integrated circuits, single-board computers, I/O modules, field-programmable gate arrays, power electronics, solid-state memory, RF and microwave components, digital signal processing, rugged computers, data-storage devices, displays, software operating systems, design and development tools, and sensors.

We are introducing the Finish Line section to increase the variety of information available to our print readers every month.

Traditionally, Military & Aerospace Electronics has concentrated on enabling technologies, industry standards, technological breakthroughs, promising research initiatives, funding trends, and other top concerns of engineers, engineering managers, and program managers.

Certainly that emphasis on technology coverage is not going away; far from it. If anything, Military & Aerospace Electronics has been strengthening its technology coverage with recent additions such as Product Intelligence, Mil-Aero Voices, and New Products, our revamped site on the Internet (www.milaero.com), and the launch later this year of our European edition of Military & Aerospace Electronics.

We realize, however, that our readers will benefit from late-breaking market information on the technologies that are central to the design of military and aerospace electronics and optoelectronic systems.

That’s where Finish Line comes in. The section fills a gap in business and financial content to complement our traditional focus on technology issues of interest to systems designers.

With the addition of this section, readers will find out about the latest technology trends of crucial importance to their jobs and about the latest market information to help guide technology design decisions.

Not only is Finish Line a valuable addition to the editorial content of Military & Aerospace Electronics, but the section also is a quick and upbeat way for readers to finish the publication each month after digesting our in-depth technology features, news, and analysis.

With the new Finish Line home for market trends information in place, we also are asking readers for input. If you have market information appropriate for the Finish Line section, please contact Chief Editor John Keller by e-mail at [email protected], or by phone at 603-891-9117.
